EcoStore USA is the United States branch of the 20-year old New Zealand Company, www.ecostore.co.nz. Melanie and Malcolm Rands lived in an eco-village in New Zealand, where all of the families living in the village/farm shared a commitment to organic food and healthy living. The village quickly discovered that using regular supermarket cleaners would wreak havoc on their water supply, so the Rands began to research and develop a line of ecofriendly cleaning products that quickly expanded past their little community.
It wasn’t long before people were reporting that their children’s allergies and asthma had cleared up, or that their respiratory conditions were healing. By simply changing the products they used in their households, people were experiencing surprising and unexpected improvements in their health.
I’m not necessarily what you would call a “green” shopper. As much as I like the organic products, I usually just can’t bring myself to spend a ton of money on those products at the store. It’s not that I don’t believe that they’re better for us – that, I don’t dispute - but not spending a ridiculous amount of money at the grocery store is good for us, too! So when EcoStore USA asked if I’d like to try some of their products, I jumped at the chance. EcoStore USA says that natural, organic products don’t have to be super expensive – instead, they make them super-concentrated. That way, a little goes a long way – and that goes for your wallet, too!
One of the biggest concerns that people have about eco-friendly products is whether or not they actually work. They wonder whether if it isn’t really better to be cleaning with the harsh cleansers, like bleach, because some messes just need heavy-duty products. And with a toddler in the house, you can bet that I am concerned about making sure that things are really clean!
I was sent EcoStore USA’s Laundry Liquid. This was perfect timing, since our washer and dryer had just died and we had just purchased a brand-new set. I thought that this would be the best time to see if the natural cleaners truly did work well – there would be no chance of any residue from other laundry liquids or anything that could possibly affect the results. Now, when Anna was born, I went out and bought some Dreft. I washed all of her clothes in that for months – and it was SO expensive! I was so relieved when her doctor said I didn’t need to worry about that anymore and I could use my regular detergent. I’ve used normal detergent for her for the last two years or so and I’ve always wondered whether or not the eczema on her upper arms is from chemicals somewhere. Well, I got my answer. Since I’ve been using EcoStore USA’s Laundry Liquid, the eczema is slowly but surely going away. You can’t get a better endorsement than that!! Plus, it smells great!
I was also sent the Pure Oxygen Whitener, which is EcoStore USA’s alternative to traditional bleach. I did a post awhile back about how I don’t know how to do laundry, so I’m new to this whole bleach thing, but their Whitener definitely did a great job! It is in a powder form, so there’s no splash-back that you need to be worried about when putting it into the washer. They also suggest that, if clothes aren’t as white as you’d like, you can leave the clothes to soak in the water and Whitener for a few hours. But perhaps the biggest plus is that there’s no awful smell!
