I’ll just say it – I had a really bad childhood. I’m going to break the damn cycle if it’s the last thing that I do. Watch me as I figure out how to parent in spite of having only TV moms as role models – thank god for Claire Huxtable!
While I’m sharing thoughts about things that matter, my husband will be writing about the more frivolous aspects of the parenting experience at: www.thescienceofbeingdad.com

I am trying to do the same thing.
I am so sorry that you had a bad childhood. I am glad to say that my childhood was wonderful
I wish you all the best in “breaking the cycle” and good for you! I think it’s very cool that your hubbie is blogging as well…and…it’s good therapy!! All the best!
I am rocking in the same boat…but trying to calm the waters, too. Growing up is hard enough without being harsh and scary and sad. I can say our family with 9 kids did “OK” but still have scars. i am proud of all of us though! ANd now, with MY 6 kids and some rotten early experiences, we try to triumph and make our way through the ’sticks and stones”. My kids are SO amazing…I could never believe I could help to mold and raise such special little beings. I am blessed, even with health problems and a history that sometimes visits my mind and heart some days. I know I have still battled the beasts and WON!!!
You are gonna win too and are doing an amazing thing here, Courtney!
So sorry to hear about your childhood. I always felt like I had a great childhood. My siblings were raised by the same parents, but I might say that I really don’t agree with their (siblings} parenting skills. I guess that is where we come to make our own decisions and rise above. Good luck! We all need it!!

Breaking the cycle – good for you! I know so many families who continue it on throughout the generations. I know a small few who stopped it. They have their scars still but they are great parents. You fall in this category and I am proud of you!
